Meet Lydia
Welcome to Nest and Nurture
Thank you so much for being here!
I qualified as a midwife 14 years ago. Originally from the UK, I now call the wildly beautiful Northern Rivers, NSW (Australia), my home.
My journey began as a very young girl. I always dreamed of being a midwife, although looking back, I had no idea what that really meant at the time.
Now, it is part of who I am. A piece of my puzzle and something I am incredibly proud of. What a privilege it is to witness the strength of women as they become mothers. Supporting families at the very beginning of such a life-changing chapter is something I will never ever be tired of.
Through preconception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, through the joyous moments and the darker ones too, midwives have the honour of standing beside women as they move through a monumental shift in their lives, one that ultimately changes them forever. The enormity of this is never lost on me, and being trusted and leaned on during such a vulnerable time is something I am forever grateful for.
As I became a mum myself, my passion didn’t falter, the space in which I felt that passion simply changed direction. There is something so magical about the moments that follow the arrival of a new baby; a time when women show up with resilience, power, determination, and bravery in ways that continually inspire me in my own journey.
I’ve cared for families with different values, goals, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and I’ve learnt so much from every single one of them. Although every family’s journey is unique, one thing remains the same: postpartum support, guidance, and understanding is invaluable and can be the difference in whether a family thrives.
I’ve never met a new parents who hasn’t needed to ask a question, share a concern, or seek reassurance at some point during those early days and weeks. Myself included.
We often fall into the trap of giving our full attention to the birth of our baby. What will labour look like? What are my preferences? Who will be there with me? While I wholeheartedly support and encourage preparation for labour and birth, my concern is that we often overlook the importance of preparing for what comes next.
Birth is just the beginning. The fourth trimester deserves just as much thought and planning. This preparation is not only necessary, it is empowering and I truly believe we can do better.
So here I am, looking to be part of your village. Hoping to sit beside you in your happiest moments, and to support you through your most vulnerable and challenging ones too.
I would love nothing more than to help you!
